It's time to put on your thinking cap. Consider these words from a recent blog written by Seth Godin:
"No organization cares about you. Organizations aren't capable of this. Your bank, certainly, doesn't care. Neither does your HMO or even your car dealer. It's amazing to me that people are surprised to discover this fact. People, on the other hand, are perfectly capable of caring. It's part of being a human. It's only when organizational demands and regulations get in the way that the caring fades. If you want to build a caring organization, you need to fill it with caring people and then get out of their way. When your organization punishes people for caring, don't be surprised when people stop caring. When you free your employees to act like people (as opposed to cogs in a profit-maximizing efficient machine) then the caring can't help but happen."
For the moment, let's shelve the idea about hiring caring people and getting out of the way. Instead, tell me if you agree that organizations are not capable of caring.
Do you think your organization cares? Do you know of an organization that cares? How do you know? What's your take?

Four Irrefutable Facts About Customer Experience Management The proliferation of job roles such as chief experience officer, and chief customer officer, tells us two things about companies. Firstly, it demonstrates that organizations now tacitly acknowledge that customer experience is important, and that there is a connection between how they treat the customer and loyalty. And secondly, it also reveals that businesses recognize that they aren’t very good at it! So says Bruce Temkin, chief customer transformist at The Temkin Group. . . .more >>
How Marketers Can Court Brand Advocates In-N-Out Burger, Apple, Dunkin Donuts, Burt's Bees, Harley Davidson. We all know brands that people will go out of their way to talk about and recommend. The idea is appealing to marketers: Why spend millions on advertising, promotions and product placements when the most effective marketing can come from consumers themselves through word of mouth? But even for the most buzz-worthy brands, not all word of mouth is created equal -- because not all consumers are created equal. While most consumers recommend brands occasionally, and reach a small group of immediate family and friends, there is a select group of people who talk about brands habitually, reaching large groups of peers. These are brand advocates. It's what they love to do and they are very good at it. Others seek out their opinions, and their recommendations have a direct influence on purchases. . . .more >>
