OUR TAKE -  Give a Little Something Extra Today

SCORE Conference 2010 - April 28,29, 2010 - Boston, MA
Lasting Impressions:
Dignity consists not in possessing honors, but in the consciousness that we deserve them. - Aristotle
Yesterday, I wrote about the value of a little something extra. I read many reader stories yesterday that suggest the "little something extra" might be remembered as much or more than the original product or service. Now, that is powerful! Today, I share a story about a person who lived his life giving something a little extra.

"My father lived to be 101. He often took cookies to nursing home residents, shared a joke or two, and made everyone feel better for having been around him. He was a wonderful example of someone who genuinely cared for others, and gave them a little something extra. One person told me that my father called him after his surgery -- to inquire about his health. He couldn't believe that a 100 year old man was calling him, to see how he doing!"

The daughter of this person with something extra to give offers that "in our daily lives, we can offer little extra niceties to our friends, neighbors, family members, acquaintances, and others we may not know. It might be a smile, an encouragement, a compliment, a pat on the back, a silly joke to brighten their day."

You may wonder what this has to do with CRM. It may not have anything to do with CRM as we know it. But it may have everything to do with CRM as it should be known. That's my take. Do you agree? What's your take?

Article:    Aim for Customer Love
Demo a Motorola Droid smartphone’s ability to link voice search with its GPS application. Say, “pizza,” “Italian restaurant, “or “vegan restaurant,” and the phone will retrieve a list of local eateries based on specified search query with restaurant names, addresses, phone numbers, reviews, and links for directions—all on one easy-to-read screen. Thank you, Google, for creating a mobile operating system (Android) that enables such a wonderful user experience. There’s no doubt the speech technology industry will benefit tremendously if it continues to create equally positive emotional reactions from customers.
