Lasting Impressions:
It is only by following your deepest instinct that you can lead a rich life, and if you let your fear of consequence prevent you from following your deepest instinct, then your life will be safe, expedient and thin. - Katharine Butler Hathaway
Today, I want to turn your attention to the little box to the right titled, "Lasting Impression." It is my sincere hope that an occasional quote inspires you in some special way. Perhaps a particular quote will even move you to do something new or different.

There are so many things wrapped up in today's quote. It seems appropriate to try and unpack a few of the ideas - deepest instincts, rich life, and fear. In the context of the recent discussion regarding the fear of transparency, this quote may be a wake-up call to look fear in the eye.

Let me put a sharp point on the question. Does avoiding a transparency policy feel safe and expedient? If so, does it also leave you thin?

In this case, thin is not in. That's my take. Do you agree? What's your take?

Article:    Customer Experience Gains
Companies looking to gain a competitive advantage today can do so by investing in the customer experience. According to Strativity Group's 2009 Customer Experience Benchmark Study, which surveyed more than 850 executives globally, smart companies are increasing their investment in customer strategies during this tough economic time in order to get or stay ahead of the competition. In fact, nearly 80 percent of companies surveyed have retained their commitment to delivering a top-notch customer experience. Additionally, nearly half of respondent's companies increased their investment in customer experience by 10 percent or more. And nearly a fifth increased their customer experience investments by 20 percent or more.

Article:    Selling Out
Founded in the 19th century, FAO Schwarz has seen its share of economic turmoil. Not until the start of the 21st century, however, did the toy-store pioneer feel the pain of its ultra-competitive, highly commoditized industry. Having undergone two bankruptcies in the past decade, it’s a wonder FAO Schwarz has managed to emerge again—hey, third time’s the charm—only to face what many are calling the worst economic crisis in modern American history.
