Lasting Impressions:
Apparently we love our own cell phones, but we hate everyone else's. - Joe Bob Briggs
Most of the email I have received about the subject of transparency and the question of whether or not businesses should adopt a transparency policy has been quite supportive. However, there are those who have expressed a sense of fear. From the correspondence I have received, I cannot definitely ascertain the source of this fear. But I have a few ideas.

Perhaps being more transparent means sharing information that you normally wouldn't share. At least information you wouldn't normally feel comfortable sharing with people whom you have no prior relationship. Maybe transparency is about being vulnerable. And if information is power, being transparent may make you more vulnerable to those who might not have your best interests in mind.

A natural conclusion to this line of thinking is the collective suggestion of many readers. Being transparent doesn't have to mean sharing everything. It doesn't mean being totally vulnerable. Rather, it is about fair play. It is, as was suggested in a previous column this week, about proactively communicating information that once brought to light would be impossible to justify?

That's my take. Do you agree? What's your take?

  NEW IN CRM

Article:    Cutting Call Times and Keeping Care Agents
Life isn't that good for CSRs who deal with increasingly difficult calls while operators hold the line on hiring. It doesn't make for job satisfaction, and though the unnaturally high churn rate amongst CSRs could be urban legend, there is probably some factual basis. Consider caring for smartphones. More than 65 percent of all new phones sold in the United States are BlackBerries, iPhones, Windows Mobile devices and others-but they aren't all sold to your high-end enterprise customers. Instead, they're sold to your average Joe upgrading from a feature phone, and the first time something goes awry with email, the camera, or the battery, Joe is on the line with the help desk.
