OUR TAKE -
Stale Customer Input

Creativity is merely a plus name for regular activity. Any activity becomes creative when the doer cares about doing it right, or better.

Yesterday, we examined the safety of the supposedly safe question at the hotel checkout counter. Perhaps "how was your stay" is not so safe after all.
I suggested a better question might be, "Is there anything we could have done to make your stay more memorable?" Reader response for the most part was in agreement that the question is actually one that does little to encourage meaningful customer feedback. However, others suggested that encouraging a more lengthy conversation is not in the best interest of expediency. Others also suggested the checkout counter lacked the intimacy needed for a guest to fully share their thoughts.
But I'm not ready to let go of the idea of discerning real customer experience information just because of speed or privacy issues. Perhaps there is an opportunity for the guest to jot a few thoughts on a survey form while the bill is being prepared or processed. And that is just one of many ideas that I believe can replace, the stale "how was your stay" question.
That's my take. What's your take?

NEW IN CRM
Article: Marketers, This is Your Time to Innovate & Lead, Not Hunker Down This past holiday season was brutal for almost all retailers. Still, Amazon.com was one company that rose above the carnage and stood out with its positive performance, growing fourth quarter sales by 18 percent and profits by nine percent. Amazon.com's share of traffic compared to the top 10 discount retailers and department stores hit 39 percent in December, up 18 percent from a year ago. In contrast, Overstock.com and CircuitCity.com (since liquidated) saw their share of visits plummet 35 percent and 44 percent, respectively. What is the secret of Amazon.com's success? As always, there is no single silver bullet. (CustomerThink

Article: Bad Billing Will Kill Off Your Biggest Buyers When dealing with telecommunications service providers, dissatisfaction is a familiar refrain among consumers, often thanks to lengthy and confusing billing statements. Turns out, however, that the tale of woe is being repeated at the enterprise end of the scale as well, with 10 percent of enterprise telecom customers dumping their providers due to billing issues in customer service, according to a recent report by management and technology consultancy Accenture. The report, "Achieving High Performance in Telecommunications through Superior Billing: Carriers' and Enterprise Customers' Perspectives," shows that carriers are aware of a huge discrepancy between the level of service they intend to provide with enterprise telecom billing and the actual level of service they admit to delivering.
