Today, I am going to attempt to pull together the disparate themes of the last two columns. So if you missed them, take a moment to read about making difficult decisions of survival as well as why I believe everything's gonna be all right.
When I read the story about the young man who made the decision to cut off his arm to save his life, I envision a great deal of suffering driving a wide range of thoughts. The mind can be an incredible "anxiety generator" that clouds judgment. But in that moment, the man kept his wits about him and made the right difficult decision. He persevered.
As business look to persevere, it is about keeping your eye on the fundamentals. It is about not letting those "anxiety generators" get the best of us. An unknown author once wrote, "My anxieties are usually about things that never happen."
For me, perseverance is about worry about the things I can make happen rather than worrying about the things that might happen. That's my take. What's your take?

Article: Marketers & Researchers Must Do More to Ensure Real Respondents In this new era of online research, more and more companies are testing public opinion and basing important business decisions on what they learn from interacting with consumers on the web. Fast, easy online survey technology makes this possible, but it can be a risky proposition. That's because companies are making important decisions on the assumption that the people responding to surveys are who they say they are. Recent real-world experience shows that this is often not the case. In fact, 29 percent of people who join survey panels fail basic fraud tests. Are they real people (and not made-up personas)? Have they joined under aliases? (CustomerThink

Article: Winning True Customer Loyalty and Trust in a Recession It is true that customers buy less in a recession but the fact is that they still buy- they are just choosy about where they spend their money. So the question is why do they not buy from you? If you are in a commodity market then they may well be seeking lower cost substitutes, but in most cases, particularly for service brands, the reason is not price. According to 'Conceptual Selling', by Robert Miller and Stephen Heimann, in over 50% of cases, lack of trust is the primary reason the customer decides not to buy. The next highest categories for not buying: 'no need' and 'no desire to change', both hover around 10%. 'No urgency' and 'no budget' trail even further behind. So, the elephant on the table in the failed sales department is absence of trust. (MyCustomer

Article: Actionable Data in a Tight Economy Proving ROI has never been a simple task for B2B marketers nor has it ever been so vital to their careers, especially in today's shaky economy. To add gasoline to the fire, at the helm of many businesses and corporations are sometimes short-term focused c-suite executives who don't necessarily view marketing as a vital investment that drives brand preference, revenue growth, and customer loyalty. These same executives often view marketing in simple tactical terms such as PR, events, and advertising. So how can B2B marketers educate and convince these executives, who frequently climbed the ranks through roles in finance or sales, of marketing's strategic value and contribution to both the top and bottom lines of the company? Actionable data.(DestinationCRM
