Yesterday, I offered a bold prediction of a swift and dramatic economic upswing. How can I do that amidst the torrent of dire news? For one, a valley is defined by the hills on each side. If we are indeed at the bottom or near the bottom, the only way to go is up. At least eventually.
But allow me to offer some reasoning behind this prediction. Let's look at one of the hardest hit industries - automobiles. In a typical year, about 5% of vehicles are sold for scrap. If there is a one-to-one replacement, the figure equates to about a million vehicles a month. The last time a million vehicles were sold was August and January was the lowest month in 33 years of government scorekeeping on such matters.
So grows the pent-up demand. OK, you can make the argument there are too many vehicles on the road and this is a correction and not pent-up demand. Putting that debate aside, there will be a point - sooner or later - that pent-up demand will reverse the trend and we will see an upswing.

News: Enkata Launches First Call Resolution Cloud Computing Service Enkata launched its new First Call Resolution (FCR) Metric Plug-in for cloud computing services. News: NetSuite Extends 'Business ByNetSuite' Program for SAP Customers NetSuite announced the extension of its Business ByNetSuite program for SAP customers. The program targets existing SAP R/3 software customers who are eager to address expanding business software needs without having to increase their capital investment in SAP. The NetSuite program guarantees SAP R/3 software customers at least 50% off their current annual maintenance and support agreement when they switch to an annual NetSuite subscription. Originally launched in November 2008, the program is being extended through the second quarter of 2009.
