"Our Take"

(Past Editions by: Date, Title, Topic)

About "Our Take"
"Our Take" is a collection of daily vignettes covering a wide range of CRM topics. It's an attempt to add our own spin to the world of CRM. We will use the column to share our perspectives, opinions, epiphanies, web nuggets, or quite frankly anything that moves us. Get ready to expect the unexpected. And, don't be shy about sharing your thoughts.

8/21/06 - Am I Being Too Tough on Conferences?
The last few columns have been dedicated to sharing my views about what you and I feel about the state of the industry's conferences. Much of what has been written has viewed as critical, perhaps even a bit harsh. Before I move on to a new topic, allow me to clarify my intentions.

I have heartstrings for our industry’s conferences. I want them to be strong and vibrant. I want them a worthwhile investment of my time. I want to come back from a conference energized with new information and new ideas. So the somewhat critical nature of what I said is meant to be a catalyst for improvement rather than merely trying to disgrace any particular event.

Many of you share those same feelings. You are making an investment of your time and money. You are expecting something in return. You said you want freshness, newness and value. A conference should not be a re-hash of last year's agenda. It should answer the relevant "what's new" questions, and lastly, a conference must deliver more than it promises.
