SupportSoft Receives Certification & Accreditation for Knowledge Management

REDWOOD CITY, CA--Mar 26, 2008 -- SupportSoft, Inc (NasdaqGS:SPRT - News), a leader in technology problem resolution, in conjunction with the National Information Assurance Partnership (NIAP), has successfully certified its product -- Knowledge Center Suite version 6.5 with Service pack 4 -- under the Common Criteria Evaluation and Validation Scheme (CCEVS). The product has been accredited at licensed and approved evaluation facilities throughout the U.S. for conformance to the Common Criteria for IT Security Evaluation (ISO Standard 15408). The NIAP is a U.S. Government initiative originated to meet the security testing needs of both information technology (IT) consumers and producers and is operated by the National Security Agency (NSA).

The CCEVS is intended to serve many communities of interest with very diverse roles and responsibilities. This community includes IT product developers, product vendors, value-added resellers, systems integrators, IT security researchers, acquisition/procurement authorities, consumers of IT products, auditors, and accreditors (individuals deciding the fitness for operation of those products within their respective organizations).

The National Institute of Standards & Technology (NIST) and the NSA have the following objectives in developing, operating, and maintaining this evaluation and validation scheme:

-- To meet the needs of government and industry for cost-effective evaluation of IT products;

-- To encourage the formation of commercial security testing laboratories and the development of a private sector security testing industry;

-- To ensure that security evaluations of IT products are performed to consistent standards;

-- To improve the availability of evaluated IT products.

SupportSoft's validated product entitles it to now use the CC Certification Mark in conjunction with advertising, marketing and selling of this specific product. This is an endorsement of the "goodness" of an IT product.

SupportSoft has also announced that KMWorld 2008 has listed SupportSoft as one of the '100 Companies that Matter in Knowledge Management.' This list has been consolidated by KM practitioners, theorists, analysts, vendors and their customers and colleagues. Hugh McKellar, editor in chief of KMWorld, says, "We have long held that the true essence of knowledge management is an attitude, a single-minded commitment to improvement and companies on our list simply must emphasize an abiding determination to serve their most important constituency: their customers. They must also show agile innovation combined with a full understanding of the forces that affect, and will affect, their customers."
