By placing an icon next to legitimate email messages, the Iconix Truemark service helps consumers visually identify legitimate email messages and avoid dangerous scams known as phishing attacks.

As phishers’ attacks become increasingly sophisticated and prevalent, consumers can take action in the fight against phishing by using the Iconix service to easily identify safe email messages. According to a recent survey by Gartner Inc., phishing attacks robbed 3.6 million people of $3.2 billion in 2007, a 40% growth over 2006. Consumers will see the Truemark Check-lockTM icon in their inbox next to messages from senders that have been verified as legitimate. In addition to PayPal, the Iconix service identifies legitimate email messages from nearly 500 other companies, including leading financial and retail organizations such as eBay, Best Buy and Dell.

The Iconix Truemark solution uses industry standard technologies such as DKIM, Domain Keys, SPF and SenderID to verify the authenticity of the message. It then takes the process a step further by checking the identification of the email sender against a list of registered senders with ICONIX, Inc. Once an email has passed Authentication and Identification steps, a Truemark Check-lock icon is displayed in the consumer’s inbox.
