Mark Angel
Chief Technology Officer
KNOVA Software

Mark Angel has worked in the fields of knowledge management, search, statistics and software development for more than two decades. As CTO of KNOVA Software, Mr. Angel is responsible for the product and technology vision of the company.

Mark joined KNOVA through the merger of ServiceWare Technologies and Kanisa, where he served as CTO. He founded Kanisa in 1997, and served as CEO until 1999. During this initial period of product development, the company created an innovative knowledge management and search platform. Kanisa's goal, from its inception, was to build enterprise applications that enable superior service delivery while reducing the cost of interaction by automating service resolution. The core KM technology underlying it's applications is driven by several patent pending innovations, including new approaches to knowledge representation, concept-based search, the automatic creation of meta-data, learning "reputation" and concept-based analytics.

Prior to Kanisa, Mark was a founder of Papyrus Technology, a leading provider of intelligent trading workstations, and a multi-million dollar business that was sold to Ernst & Young, LLP in 1996. Papyrus' software for real-time market analysis was used by thousands of professional traders at leading investment banks, brokerage firms, commodity houses and money center banks. Papyrus' technical leadership included shipping the first Windows-based trading station, the first graphical expert system for trading support, and one of the initial Internet-based market analysis packages.

During more than ten years spent developing and programming software, Mark helped build leading applications for statistical analysis, business accounting and commodity hedging. He studied economics at the University of Chicago, and was a recipient of the Truman Scholarship in 1978.
